Chief organising secretary for the function Dr. Mamatha K.V., Professor and HOD, Dept. of Prasutitantra and Streeroga, SDMCA Udupi welcomed the gathering and highlighted the importance of developing a separate wing of cosmetology in Ayurveda. She said that it is the responsibility of every Ayurvedic physician to utilise the various concepts of cosmetology explained in Ayurveda classics for the wellbeing of society, as people are misguided by fake herbal products in the name of Ayurveda. The main event was prize distribution both for the academic excellence and sports champions &amp; fine arts. Students received the prizes from Dr.N. Lakshminarayan Bhat. Prize distribution was followed by the speech by the Chief Guest, Dr N.Lakshminarayan Bhat. Sir has given the talk on the importance of Sanskrit. He quoted the Sanskrit language as ‘avinasha’. Sanskrit is the only language that does not change according to different states, people and region. It remains eternal. Following the speech, Memento was presented to Dr.N. Lakshminarayan Bhat by the Principal Dr Shreekanth.U. Then the vote of thanks was delivered by Mr Venkatesh G Kulkarni, General Secretary student council.
The process of learning in Vedic period was mainly in the form of hearing – memorizing- using. In the later days, they were documented in texts in the form of Sutras. They are concise, unambiguous, meaningful, easy to remember and properly applied. Ayurveda texts mainly contain the concepts in the form of sutras. Learning the sutra is the first step towards learning the Ayurveda. With this concept SDM College of Ayurveda, Daksha – SDM men's club organized Hridayavabodhini Shloka recitation competition at SDM College of Ayurveda Udupi. More than 650 students from 10 different Ayurveda colleges across Karnataka had registered for the first round. The competition was held at three different levels at various venues and final was held at SDM College of Ayurveda Udupi on 25/01/2018. Mr Sandeep S Achar of SDM College of Ayurveda Udupi bagged first place and Miss. Sharada M K of SDM Institute of Ayurveda Bengaluru bagged second place. Valedictory program was presided by Dr Shreekanth U Principal SDMCA Udupi and said these type competitions help the students in learning the Ayurveda and improves the knowledge. On the occasion of Diamond Jubilee celebration, the 1st of the series of CME on ‘Karma Abhyasa’ was organised by SDM College of Ayurveda and Hospital, Udupi on 5th and 6th January 2018. The program was inaugurated by lighting of the lamp by the Medical Superintendent of SDM Ayurveda Hospital Dr.Muralidhara Sharma, Principal of the college Dr. Shreekanth U, Prof.& HOD, Dept. of PG studies in Kayachikitsa Dr. G. Shrinivasa Acharya and the delegates on 5th January 2018. This was followed by interactive session and hands on training in various branches of Ayurveda like Kayachikitsa, Panchakarma, Shalakyatantra, Shalya Tantra, Prasootitantra and StreeRoga and Rasashastra and BhaishajyaKalpana. This CME series has been open to all practitioners with the aim to bridge the gap between the practitioners and the institution and to refresh their academic potential. There were delegates from various states of India. The session concluded with a panel discussion will all the resource persons followed by the valedictory function on 6th January 2018.
World Sight Day was celebrated in Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College of Ayurveda and Hospital, Udupi on 12/10/2017. The event was organized by the Shalakya Tantra Department. The function was inaugurated by Dr. Shreekanth U, Principal, SDM College of Ayurveda, Udupi. Sir emphasized on the excessive use of gadgets as the major cause of vision problems. The function was presided by Dr. Muralidhara Sharma, Medical Superintendent, SDM Ayurveda Hospital who highlighted on the role of Ayurveda in prevention of eye diseases in his presidential address. Dr. Muralidhara R, General Manager, SDM Ayurveda Pharmacy planted medicinal herbs beneficial for the protection of eyes in the hospital premises. The gathering was welcomed by Dr. Gayathri G. Hegde, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Shalakya Tantra. Dr. Sapna D. Bhandary, HOD, Dept. of Shalakyatantra delivered the vote of thanks. Dr. Chaithra S. Hebbar, co-ordinated the function. Dr. Deepak S.M., Dr. Jayakrishna Nayak, Sri C.Shrinivasa Hegde, Sri Nagesh C.H. were present in the program along with other doctors, teaching staff, PG scholars and Internees. The invocation was done by Dr. Swathi. An exhibition of medicinal plants, raw materials for the preparation of medicine and prepared medicines from SDM Ayurveda Pharmacy was conducted.
Free Eye Check Up camp was held on Saturday, 07-10-2017, by the department of Shalakya tantra. More than sixty patients participated and received treatment at discount rate and free eye check up. The hospital's chief superintendent Dr. Muralidhar Sharma said diseases related to eye, nose, mouth, throat and ear and its treatments are wxaplained in detail in Sushruta samhita. Some of the classical treatments available in the NIMI section of the Hospital which will benefit the patients.
Head of the Shalakya tantra Division and Ayurveda Ophthalmologist Dr. Sapna Dinesh Bhandari, said the camp was being held on the first Saturday of every month, for about nine months and that the public could get the benefits of this camp in the future. Eye specialist Dr. Gayatri Hegde and Dr. Chaitra S. Hebbar were present. Hospital Manager Mr. C. Srinivasa Hegde and the internees helped organizing the camp.
“Swacchata Hi Sewa” one week programs were conducted by NSS wing of Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Ayurveda College, Udupi. As a part of the program importance of the hand wash and awareness campaign was organized from 15th to 24th September. NSS Volunteers carried out awareness programs for the inpatients and their assistants and demonstrated and trained the right method of Hand wash. As a part of the same program Manifestation letter competition was conducted to the college students. NSS unit officer Dr. Vidyalakshmi K. coordinators Dr. Mohammed Faisal, Dr. Aniruddha, Dr. Srinidhi Dhanya, Dr. Harshita MS organized this program.
September 5: Guruvandana program was organized at Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Ayurveda College and Hospital, Kuthpadi as a part of Teachers Day celebrations. Dr.D.Krishnamurthy, director of Om Shri Ayurvedics , Kalsangka, retired as a Head of the department & post graduate dean and the new CCIM member Dr. Tanmay Goswamy, director of the Punarnava Ayurvedic treatment center of Kunjibettu were honored. In the current condition of the extinction of the Ayurveda plants, each institution should take up the task to grow Ayurvedic plants and make medicines and use it for people health. & He thanked the college Management as well as staff members who cooperated him in his work during his . 71th Independence Day was celebrated in the presence of all students and teachers at Ayurveda College, Manjunatheshwara, Udyavara. Shri Krishna rao, retired teacher of Shirva Government Junior College, attended the event as the chief guest and performed the flag hoisting program. He spoke to the students and said, 'It is the duty of the youth to retain the freedom that our ancestors have gained. Breast feeding awareness programme was organised by the Dept. of Kaumarabritya, Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College of Ayurveda, Udupi on 4th August 2017 in association with Health Care Division Sandu. Dr. Shreekanth U, Principal, SDM College of Ayurveda, Udupi presided the function. Dr. Vidya Ballal, Associate Professor, Department of Prasootitantra and Streeroga was the chief resource person. She spoke on the importance of breast feeding in child health and adoptable breast feeding techniques. Dr. Prathviraj Puranik, HOD, Dept. of Kaumarabritya welcomed the gathering. Sri Vittal, Area Sales Manager, Health Care Division, Sandu delivered the introductory speech and was present with his team. Dr. Kavya compeered the function and Dr. Almas delivered the vote of thanks. Sri Ravishankar B., Director, SDM Research Centre, Dr. V.N.K. A guest lecture on the topic ‘Exam related anxiety and solutions’ was organised on 12/07/2017 by the Examination committee of S.D.M. College of Ayurveda and Hospital, Udupi. Dr. Deepak Mallya, Consultant Psychiatrist from A.V. Baliga Hospital, Doddanagudde, Udupi was the resource person. Dr. Shreekanth P, Head of the examination committee shared the dias. Importance of planned methodical preparation throughout the year, time management and importance of concentration and focus in the class were the highlights of the lecture. Health Awareness Campaign was about 'Rainy Diseases and Precautionary Activities'. As a part of 3rd International Yoga Day celebration Department of Swasthavritta have organized varieties of programs from 30th May to 21st June. “Yoga Masa”- from 30-05-2017 to 21-06-2017 - camp for public with the collaboration of SDM College of Yoga and Naturopathy, Ujire. Conducted different competitions like Yoga dance competition, Yoga demonstration competition and article writing competition on 14-06-2017.“Yoga saptaha” – 1 week Yoga camp in college and visited 3 schools namely St Francis Xavier High School, Udyavara, Hindu Higher Primary School, Udyavara and Kuthpadi Higher Primary School, Kuthpadi from 15-06-2017 to 21-06-2017. On 21st June mass yoga practice followed by guest speech by Mrs Roopa Ballal, Yoga Teacher, Syndicate training school, Manipal.

He appreciated the institution for giving such a quality technical education and he ended his speech by congratulating all the prize winners. Students who have achieved excellence in co-curricular and sporting activities were awarded on this occasion and was convened by Dr.Seema M.B and Dr.Vidya Ballal . Swacch Bharath Program was conducted as a part of Swacch Bharath Abhiyan drive. The event was held on 23/11/16 at 3pm in SDM Ayurveda College campus by Youth Red Cross wing and NSS wing of the college. The eve of 14th August, 2016 saw faculty, students coming together to show their respect of 70th Independence day in the form of a candle march in remembrance of the martyrs of freedom fight . The candle march began at 7p.m from Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Ayurveda College, Udupi in which more than 200 students joined the march where all the students took up candles and walked around the premises singing various patriotic songs. This was in the memory of all the freedom fighters who pledged their life for their country as well as those unnamed soldiers without whose support independent India would still be a distant dream. The name “India” drawn on the stage was illuminated by candles in front of Lord Dhanwantari, signifying the independent unified India. The march was attended by Dr.Muralidhara Sharma, Medical superintendent of Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Ayurveda Hospital, Udupi , Dr.B.Ravishankar, Research Director, Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Research Center, Dr.Muralidhara ballal, General manager, Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Ayurveda Pharmacy, Dr.Seema M.B, Convener of the Cultural Committee, Shri. Department of Dravyagunavijnana in association with National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of our institution organised Surapala Saptaha in connection with Vanamahotsava 2016, by plantation of medicinal plants in herbal garden for one week from 13th to 19th July 2016 . All the head of the departments, staff members, Undergraduates, Postgraduate scholars and the internees took active participation by planting medicinal plants. Sri Ramesh Poojary President GIANTS Udupi, Sri Madhusudan Herur Ex President GIANTS Udupi, Sri Anand Secretary GIANTS Udupi were the chief guest for Vanamahotsava program on19th July. Principal Dr.Shrikanth. U inaugurated the program by planting Neem plant in Nimba vana. A total of 245 medicinal plants especially useful for various Panchakarma procedures were planted in Saptavana (7 gardens) during Surapala saptaha.

World environment day 2016 was celebrated on June 10,2016 as a part of the Vagbhata Saptaha which is conducted to pay our respect to Acharya Vagbhata who is author of “Ashtanga hridaya” one of three important scriptures in Ayurveda.
